Joseph Stacy is a versatile young musician.  Through sensible musicianship and academic excellence, he has established himself as a multifaceted performer, pedagogue, and scholar.

Joseph Stacy is an American pianist based on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-watuth Coast Salish Peoples in what is now called Vancouver, BC.

Accomplished as a soloist, collaborator, and pedagogue, Stacy’s career has taken him across the U.S., Canada, and Austria.  He performed in the Esterházy Palace as part of the 2018 Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria, took part in multiple chamber ensembles for the 2022 AlpenKammerMuzik Festival in the alpine village of Liesing, Austria, and he was awarded a scholarship to participate in the 2023 Collaborative Piano Institute in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  He received 3rd prize in the New Albany Symphony Orchestra Student Concerto Competition (2017), an Honorable Mention in Ohio University's Student Soloist Competition (2016), and he was recognized as a finalist in the United States Virtuoso Artists' International Piano Competition (2018). An avid lover of piano duo/duet repertoire, he and Gabriel Landstedt performed together as finalists in the Ohio International Duet and Duo Competition (2023), and he and fellow performer Mallory Scaife were awarded 1st prize in the Ohio MTA/Graves Piano Competition’s Adult Duo Division (2018).  He has performed in master classes of internationally acclaimed pianists including Michael Chertock (Cincinnati CCM), Jane Coop (UBC), Ralf Heiber (Vienna Music and Arts University), Warren Jones (Manhattan School of Music), Rachel Kudo (International Bach Competition Winner), and Stanislav Tichonow (Haydn Konservatory).

In addition to his attainments in performance, Stacy has delivered presentations at the Music Teachers’ National Association (MTNA) Collegiate Chapters Piano Pedagogy Symposium (2018, 2019), the MTNA National Conference (2017, 2018), and the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy (2019). He also participated in the highly selective Eastman Leadership Academy (2020).

Stacy was awarded the Faculty of Arts Graduate Fellowship to pursue his Master of Music in Piano Performance at the University of British Columbia, graduating in 2021.  Prior to earning his master’s degree, he graduated summa cum laude with his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance/Pedagogy from Ohio University, where he was also presented with the School of Music’s award for Undergraduate Achievement in Performance (2019).  His primary piano professors include Steinway Artist, Mark Anderson at UBC and Yamaha Artist, Christopher Fisher at Ohio University.  Additional piano professors include Stephanie Wu, Rena Sharon, and Michelle Mares.  He also studied organ under the tutelage of Paul Barte.

Stacy is also a composer and arranger; he enjoys including original work on his concerts as well as sharing creative projects on his Soundcloud.  During the few hours of the week in which he is away from a piano, Stacy can be found taking his weekly cold plunge in the ocean, hiking the North Shore mountains, or running along the Vancouver seawall.  In 2023, he officially earned the title of “marathoner,” completing the BMO Vancouver Marathon with a respectable time of 3:12.
