Joseph Stacy is a versatile young musician.  Through sensible musicianship and academic excellence, he has established himself as a multifaceted performer, pedagogue, and scholar.  

Joseph Stacy is an American pianist based on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-watuth First Nations in what is now called Vancouver, BC.  A recipient of the Faculty of Arts Graduate Award, he graduated from the University of British Columbia (UBC) with his Master of Music in Piano Performance in 2021.  

 

Mr. Stacy performed in the Esterházy Palace as part of the 2018 Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria, and he has performed in master classes of internationally acclaimed pianists such as Michael Chertock (Cincinnati CCM), Jane Coop (UBC), Ralf Heiber (Vienna Music and Arts University), Rachel Kudo (International Bach Competition Winner), and Stanislav Tichonow (Haydn Konservatory). He was awarded 3rd prize in the New Albany Symphony Orchestra Student Concerto Competition (2017) as well as an Honorable Mention in Ohio University's Student Soloist Competition (2016), and he was recognized as a finalist in the United States Virtuoso Artists' International Piano Competition (2018). An avid lover of piano duo/duet repertoire, he and duet partner Mallory Scaife took 1st prize in the Ohio MTA/Graves Piano Competition (2018). He is also quite the accomplished page turner, having turned for Alessio Bax, Paul Lewis, and Steven Osborne.    

Mr. Stacy graduated summa cum laude with his Bachelor of 

Music in Piano Performance/Pedagogy from Ohio University, where he was also awarded the Undergraduate Achievement in Performance Award. While at Ohio University, he served as principal pianist for the Symphony Orchestra, and he was inducted into the music honor society, Pi Kappa Lambda. He also taught private lessons and assisted with group classes as a student instructor with the Athens Community Music School (ACMS) and helped coordinated many community events designed to engage ACMS students and their families through music-centered activities. His junior year, he served as President of Ohio University's Music Teachers' National Association (MTNA) collegiate chapter - a student organization that is now a three-time recipient of the MTNA Collegiate Chapter of the Year Award (2015, 2019, 2021). He has presented many posters and sessions at various conferences throughout the U.S., including the Ohio MTA State Conference (2015, 2017), the MTNA Collegiate Chapters Piano Pedagogy Symposium (2018, 2019), the MTNA National Conference (2017, 2018), and the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy (2019). He also participated in the highly selective Eastman Leadership Academy (2020).    

 

A current faculty member at both the Arbutus Music Academy and the West Point Grey School of Music, Mr. Stacy enjoys performing, teaching, collaborating, and creating music.  His former piano teachers include Steinway Artist, Mark Anderson at UBC, Yamaha Artist, Christopher Fisher at Ohio University, as well as brief studies with Michelle Mares and Stephanie Wu. Additionally, he studied collaborative piano with Rena Sharon as well as organ under the tutelage of Paul Barte.  On the rare occasion he is not playing piano, he is likely baking bread, making puns, or running/hiking through the mountains.
